Former MAGA supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced her decision to resign from her position as a member of the US House of Representatives in January, prompting a response from Donald Trump.
In a video exceeding 10 minutes in duration, Greene cited her desire to spare her congressional district from a contentious primary election against her, fueled by the former president they had collectively supported. Greene, previously known for her fervent backing of conspiracy theories and loyalty to Donald Trump, notably engaged in a controversial exchange with Emily Maitlis of The News Agents regarding outlandish claims about “Jewish Space Lasers” causing wildfires in California.
Her resignation followed a public falling-out with Trump, during which she criticized his positions on various issues, leading Trump to label her a “traitor” and express support for a challenger in her upcoming reelection bid. Greene disclosed that her final day in office would be on January 5, 2026.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump seized the opportunity to mock Greene’s decision, attributing it to declining poll numbers and her reluctance to face a primary opponent endorsed by him. He also referenced her relationship with Congressman Tom Massie, whom he criticized for opposing Republican Party initiatives. Despite the rift between them, Trump acknowledged Greene’s service to the country.
Greene’s break from Trump signified a notable fracture in his influence over conservative circles, particularly among his staunch followers. By choosing to step down in the face of Trump’s opposition, Greene aligned herself with previous establishment Republicans who clashed with the former president.
In her video resignation announcement, Greene, adorned with a cross necklace and surrounded by holiday decorations, emphasized her unwavering convictions and asserted that her self-worth was not derived from any man but from her faith in God.
