Serbia’s current president faces serious allegations of involvement in so-called “human safaris,” where affluent tourists reportedly paid substantial sums to hunt down innocent civilians for entertainment. Shocking accusations have emerged in a Milan court, claiming that foreigners paid £70,000 for the opportunity to shoot individuals in Sarajevo during the ’90s Bosnian War. The city endured a prolonged siege by Serb forces from 1992 to 1996, causing immense suffering.
Investigative journalist Domagoj Margetic asserted that President Aleksandar Vučić participated in these activities between 1992 and 1993, allegedly volunteering with a Bosnian Serb militia. Disturbing footage resurfaced showing a militia leader, Slavko Aleksic, standing beside a car with a human skull, purportedly from the grisly safari expeditions, adorned with a UN helmet.
Margetic claimed to possess evidence linking Vučić to these events and reported his findings to Milan’s Public Prosecutor’s Office. However, Vučić vehemently denied these accusations, labeling them as deliberate misinformation aimed at tarnishing his reputation and that of Serbia. His spokesperson maintained that during that period, Vučić worked as a journalist and translator in a nearby town and had no involvement in combat or military operations.
Further claims suggested that Vučić served as a “war volunteer” for a specific military unit during the Sarajevo siege, an assertion supported by alleged video evidence. However, Vučić and his team refuted these claims, asserting that he was engaged in journalistic activities during that time. Despite the mounting accusations, Vučić has consistently denied any direct participation in violence during the Bosnian War.
Italian journalist Ezio Gavazzeni recently filed a complaint, alleging that affluent tourists with far-right affiliations paid to target unarmed civilians, with varying rates based on gender and age. These individuals reportedly flew from Trieste to Belgrade, then proceeded to the hills surrounding Sarajevo to carry out these heinous acts from Serbian positions.
