Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to pursue further historic achievements this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a month after registering for the World Seniors Snooker Championship. The 50-year-old, known for his competitiveness, will face off against players on the senior circuit. In the upcoming spring, the Rocket will strive to claim the title for an unprecedented eighth time during his 34th consecutive appearance at the World Championship.
Remaining in Yorkshire, O’Sullivan will make his debut in the senior tournament, commencing on May 6 and spanning five days. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has confirmed O’Sullivan’s participation, highlighting him as one of the sport’s most commercially successful and captivating figures who will lead the strongest field ever assembled for a World Seniors event.
Among the participants are fellow world champions Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty, along with notable players like Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, Tony Drago, and others. The Chairman of the event expressed enthusiasm for O’Sullivan’s debut, anticipating increased ticket sales and excitement surrounding the competition.
Following the 2025 World Championship, the World Snooker Tour relaxed rules, allowing professional players aged 45 or older and ranked in the top 64 to compete on the veterans’ circuit. O’Sullivan, with seven world titles to his name, aims to add another to his impressive record after drawing level with Stephen Hendry in 2022. Despite previous rivalry, Hendry has shown support for O’Sullivan’s pursuit of an eighth title, emphasizing the significance of winning at a young age.
In a recent interview, Hendry expressed pride in his own records and stated his preference for O’Sullivan to achieve further success, acknowledging the exceptional talent required to win at a young age. The stage is set for an exciting showdown at the upcoming World Seniors Snooker Championship at the iconic Crucible venue.
