A man, identified as Andrew Stockman, has been sentenced to jail for mistreating his wife during a holiday in Benidorm. The incident unfolded when Stockman, 54, expelled his wife, Sandra, from their vacation accommodation for two days following an outburst in the popular tourist destination. The court revealed that the trip, which occurred during the Christmas season last year, was intended to be a much-needed escape for the long-time couple, who had been together since their teenage years.
The altercation marked a breaking point for Sandra, who had endured a series of abusive episodes throughout their relationship, as stated by the judge. Prosecutor Richard Edwards highlighted that the couple’s marital issues culminated during their Christmas trip in 2024. Mrs. Stockman, while caring for a deceased friend during their time away, informed Stockman about the friend’s illness, but he prevented her from returning home to attend to the situation.
In desperate attempts to arrange the funeral, Sandra faced hostile behavior from Stockman, leading to her expulsion without her passport. Subsequently, she navigated Benidorm without shelter until she managed to retrieve her passport from their apartment clandestinely, enabling her to fly back home.
The prosecutor emphasized that Stockman showed little concern for Sandra’s whereabouts for several days before acknowledging the end of their relationship upon his return. Recounting years of abuse, including physical assaults and emotional torment, Mrs. Stockman emphasized the lasting impact of Stockman’s coercive and controlling conduct on her and their children. She expressed frustration over lost opportunities and the normalization of abuse in their relationship.
Following Stockman’s admission to coercive and controlling behavior, he was sentenced to three years and five months in prison. Judge Timothy Petts condemned Stockman’s pattern of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse, noting threats of harm towards Sandra. The court disclosed that the couple, who operated a Bed and Breakfast business, are now undergoing divorce proceedings. The judge underscored the severity of Stockman’s abusive actions and their detrimental effects on his wife, emphasizing the gravity of the case.
