Russia’s Nighttime Aerial Assault Kills 16 in Kyiv

A nighttime aerial assault by Russia on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and its vicinity resulted in the deaths of at least 16 individuals, as confirmed by officials on Thursday.

In recent times, Moscow has escalated its ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv, taking advantage of Ukraine’s lack of U.S.-made Patriot air defense interceptors, the only defense system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles in its arsenal.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made appeals for additional Patriot interceptors from other countries, but global stockpiles are depleted due to the conflict in Iran and Ukraine’s ongoing battle against Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The overnight barrage from Russia also involved cruise missiles and high-speed jet-powered drones, placing additional strain on Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, as reported by the Ukrainian air force.

Explosions reverberated through the city during the night, with Kyiv as the main target, although strikes were detected at 28 different locations across the country, according to the air force. Zelenskyy stated that approximately 40 individuals sustained injuries, with air raid warnings in effect until dawn.

Zelenskyy described the attack as “massive,” noting that Russia meticulously planned it over a significant period, utilizing a variety of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones to inflict maximum damage on civilian infrastructure.
