“Promise David Joins Brighton on Loan from Union Saint-Gilloise”

Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian striker will join the team on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with a potential permanent transfer fee of $29.7 million US based on specific conditions.

Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will transition to the Premier League starting from the following season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. David, who excelled at Union with 41 goals in 82 games, including aiding the team in winning its first league title in 90 years in 2025, extended his contract until June 2029.

Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David showcased his talent by scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team, David’s decision to switch allegiance from Nigeria to Canada was approved by FIFA in 2025 after discussions with coach Jesse Marsch.

Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David’s football journey has taken him through various countries like Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before settling in Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement over David’s signing, praising his goal-scoring prowess, physical abilities, and international experience as valuable assets for the team’s upcoming campaign.

Brighton, a consistent Premier League participant for nine seasons, finished in eighth place in the previous season. David’s arrival adds depth to the team’s attacking options as they aim to build on their solid league performance.
