The Crown Estate, responsible for managing the property, may owe Prince Andrew up to £500,000 if he decides to leave before his lease expires in 2078. Notably, Prince Andrew had paid £1 million for the tenancy and invested £7.5 million in mansion repairs, effectively prepaying his lease.
There are discussions about King Charles potentially offering a personal reimbursement to Prince Andrew or finding an alternative way to repay the Crown Estate for any settlement. However, any public payout could raise concerns about royal finances.
As for future living arrangements, Prince Andrew has declined an offer to move to Frogmore Cottage and prefers to remain near London, particularly in the Windsor area to be close to his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie. King Charles reportedly supports the idea of ensuring the security of the princesses’ residences.
