Time is running out to apply for the Warm Home Discount, a £150 benefit that is usually applied automatically. The discount is directly deducted from your electricity bill or provided as vouchers for prepayment customers.
To be eligible for the Warm Home Discount, you must have been receiving specific benefits as of August 24. In England and Wales, automatic payment is made if you were claiming the qualifying benefits. However, in Scotland, only those receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit receive automatic payment; others must apply manually through their energy supplier. Northern Ireland does not have a Warm Home Discount scheme.
If you believe you qualify but haven’t received the benefit, contact the Warm Home Discount scheme before February 28 by calling 0800 030 9322 or writing to Warm Home Discount Scheme, PO Box 970, Preston, PR2 0FX.
As the deadline approaches, it’s recommended to contact them promptly. Additionally, energy bills are expected to decrease this spring, with Ofgem projected to lower the price cap from £1,758 to £1,641 annually for a typical dual fuel household. Ofgem will announce the next price cap on February 25, effective from April 1 to June 30.
If you are on a standard variable rate tariff, you will fall under the Ofgem price cap. Remember, the cap limits the charges for gas and electricity usage, along with fixed daily standing charges for energy connection. While there’s a cap on unit charges, your total bill depends on your energy consumption.
