“Child Bride Escapes Abuse: Teen Dreams of Doctor Career”

A 15-year-old girl, part of the global issue of child brides, managed to escape from the severe sexual abuse inflicted upon her by a 35-year-old man.

Originally from a family of six in Tanzania, Latifa was forced into marriage at the young age of 15, where she was compelled to share a bed with a stranger. Despite her love for education, especially in science and physics, she often went to bed hungry and only had two meals a day.

Dreaming of becoming a doctor, Latifa expressed her aspirations to work in a hospital and help children in need. Her hopes were shattered when she was abruptly married off to a man named Salum, whom her father had arranged for her to wed without her understanding the implications. Forced into marriage, she endured emotional turmoil and physical pain, leading to the birth of her daughter, Zainabu, at a young age.

Following the birth, Salum abandoned Latifa on the streets, leaving her homeless with her newborn. With the help of a woman named Happy, Latifa found refuge and support, alleviating her loneliness and despair. Now, she strives to secure a better future for her daughter through her own hard work and participation in a savings program.
