A well-known hotel and dining establishment abruptly ceased operations after serving patrons for 46 years, causing distress among customers.
Guy’s Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire off the A6, has officially closed its doors. The hotel, featuring 65 rooms and located alongside the canal on St Michael’s Road, has terminated all its employees, as confirmed by reports.
An announcement affixed to the hotel’s entrance has verified the closure. Encompassing nearly 14 acres, the property included various amenities such as a tavern, eatery, sports pavilion, function rooms, cricket field, bowling green, and three parking lots.
As per the Lancashire Post, a statement on the note read: “After 46 years of operation, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has ceased trading. This decision was challenging and made after careful deliberation. We express our heartfelt gratitude to our loyal customers, staff, and suppliers for their unwavering support over the years.
“The hamlet held significant value for many individuals, and as it transitions, our primary focus is on concluding this chapter.”
Upset customers have taken to social media to share their sentiments following the news. One individual reminisced, “That’s where my husband proposed to me in 2012.” Another lamented, “I also got engaged here in 2015. It’s truly saddening.”
Another commenter expressed, “I’ve been a regular at Guys for years and even proposed to my partner in the restaurant, receiving applause from fellow diners. It’s heartbreaking that it’s gone, and hopefully, someone will preserve its essence.”
The Wilkinson family managed the business since 1980 and put it up for sale last year, citing a net turnover of approximately £4.2 million without a specified guide price.
The listing described Guy’s Thatched Hamlet & Hotel as strategically located with easy access to prominent areas like the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland. The hotel boasted 65 en suite rooms and attracted both leisure and commercial clientele.
The property’s proximity to major motorways and its unique appeal in the North West of England made it a prime destination for visitors year-round. Extensive refurbishments and expansions over the years enhanced its offerings, ensuring a bustling trade during peak seasons.
