The Canadian government has given Flair Airlines a $76 million emergency financial assistance package to help mitigate the impact of rising jet fuel costs on airlines. CEO Len Corrado expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing that it reflects the government’s acknowledgment of the challenges faced by the industry and its commitment to maintaining competitiveness.
Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. has sanctioned the bailout loans to help offset the escalating fuel expenses and make air travel more affordable. The loan, provided to Flair Airlines, must be repaid within four years, with interest rates lower than the prevailing market rates.
In a similar vein, Transat A.T. Inc., the parent company of Air Transat, has received financial aid amounting to $430 million following the onset of the Iran conflict in late February. The conflict led to a substantial increase in energy prices, causing jet fuel costs to nearly double compared to a year ago.
Additionally, Porter Airlines recently secured a $125 million bailout loan from the government, indicating ongoing efforts to support the aviation sector during these challenging times.
