A survivor of the recent deadly blizzard in Patagonia, Chile, has shared harrowing details of the tragic incident that claimed the life of Victoria Bond. Victoria, a 40-year-old PR professional known for her work with celebrities like Cheryl Tweedy and Annabelle Wallis, was part of a group trekking through the Torres del Paine nature reserve when they were engulfed by a severe snowstorm with winds reaching 120mph, akin to a Category 3 hurricane.
Among the group, nine tourists initially went missing during the intense storm. Unfortunately, five individuals, including Victoria, two Mexicans, and two Germans, did not make it out alive. Chris Aldridge, a companion of Victoria during the ordeal, recounted the terrifying moments when they struggled against the elements, fearing for their lives as they descended the icy peaks.
Chris described the treacherous conditions they faced, with icy surfaces, strong winds, and limited visibility causing panic among the group. Upon returning to their camp, it became apparent that some members had suffered serious injuries, including frostbite and hypothermia. Tragically, Victoria and others did not make it back to the safety of the camp.
The National Parks authority in Chile, CONAF, expressed deep regret over the tragedy and extended condolences to the families of the victims. They pledged to enhance safety measures and emergency response protocols in the park to prevent such incidents in the future.
