Following a robbery while withdrawing money from a cash machine in north London, an elderly man has passed away after 20 days.
Jalal Khan, aged 76, sustained a head injury during the ambush on October 30. He was quickly taken to the hospital in critical condition and unfortunately succumbed on November 19. Known as a gentle and kind-hearted individual, Jalal resided near the post office on High Street in Ponders End, where the incident is believed to have occurred.
The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of a robbery and assault on High Street in Ponders End on October 30. Jalal Khan was found with head injuries and transported to the hospital in a life-threatening state. Tragically, he passed away on November 19. The family is receiving support from specialized officers and has requested privacy during this challenging period.
A staff member from the post office mentioned that Jalal was targeted while using the cash machine outside. Describing him as a familiar and kind individual, the staff member expressed shock at the incident, which occurred just outside the shop while Jalal was withdrawing cash.
Rasel Alam, the owner of the Enfield Food Hall, paid tribute to Jalal, referring to him as a peaceful and kind gentleman. Alam recalled Jalal as a smiling and respected member of the community, emphasizing the loss felt by everyone who knew him.
A neighbor described Jalal as a considerate and excellent neighbor, expressing disbelief that such a tragic event could happen so close to his home.
Authorities have gathered CCTV and ring doorbell footage from the vicinity of the crime scene. Jaesis Boatswain, aged 40, residing in Enfield, faces charges of grievous bodily harm, assault, robbery, and wielding a knife in connection with the incident.
Jaesis Boatswain appeared in Highbury Magistrates’ Court on November 6 and has been remanded in custody. The next court appearance is scheduled at Wood Green Crown Court on December 10.
