Keir Starmer has expressed his desire to see Angela Rayner reinstated in the Cabinet before the upcoming general election.
During the G20 summit, Starmer mentioned his ongoing communication with Angela Rayner and his strong support for her return to the Cabinet. He emphasized her remarkable journey from a challenging upbringing to becoming the Deputy Prime Minister, citing her as a symbol of social mobility in the UK.
The Prime Minister acknowledged his friendship with Rayner, highlighting their frequent conversations and expressing his appreciation for her presence. Rayner had previously resigned from her positions as Housing Secretary, Deputy PM, and Labour’s deputy leader in September following an admission of underpaying stamp duty on her Hove property.
While an inquiry found Rayner had breached the ministerial code by underpaying taxes on her East Sussex property, she maintained her commitment to rectifying the situation. In a recent interview, Rayner affirmed her continued dedication to serving the people of Ashton-under-Lyne and outlined her focus on issues like child poverty and fair pay agreements.
Despite her resignation, Rayner remains active in championing her constituents’ interests and is poised to address key societal challenges.
