An 18-year-old sex offender from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison for grooming a 14-year-old girl online. Kai Edmundson used various social media platforms to manipulate the victim, sending indecent images and encouraging self-harm.
Despite never meeting in person, Edmundson coerced the girl through platforms like Discord, WhatsApp, and Telegram. The predator sent explicit images and links to inappropriate websites, instructing the victim to engage in harmful activities and refer to him as a ‘disgusting paedophile.’
Their communication spanned four months, during which Edmundson openly admitted to being a paedophile. The disturbing interactions prompted the victim to harm herself and carve Edmundson’s name into her skin. Fortunately, the abuse was discovered by authorities after a report of inappropriate contact.
Upon investigation, screenshots of their conversations were recovered, revealing the extent of Edmundson’s manipulation. Lancashire Police arrested him on April 1, seizing his phone containing indecent images. Subsequently, he was charged with multiple offenses related to sexual communication with a child and possessing indecent images.
Edmundson pleaded guilty in court and received a custodial sentence, along with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and registration as a sex offender. DS Nicholas Barker emphasized the seriousness of the case, highlighting the risks posed by online predators like Edmundson and commending the victim for her bravery throughout the ordeal.
