A tragic incident unfolded as a young man met his demise after leaping from a third-story window to evade returning to prison.
Tyquan Richardson, aged 22, faced charges related to marijuana distribution and was accused of possessing an ounce of the illicit substance. Law enforcement officers, linking a gun found outside the courthouse to Richardson, moved to apprehend him.
Upon realizing the impending arrest, Richardson impulsively crashed through a glass window on the third floor and tragically fell to his death. Authorities suggest that fear of serving a jail term triggered his desperate action.
The shattered window Richardson plunged through bore witness to the grim event. He succumbed to his injuries around 1:30 pm after swift transport to a nearby hospital in October 2015.
Hailing from Georgia’s Atlanta region, Richardson harbored concerns about the potential repercussions of the gun charge given his criminal history, as stated by a local police representative.
Reportedly, the 22-year-old had prior convictions and was out on bail when arrested for suspected possession of a loaded firearm, violating his bail conditions if proven.
The loaded handgun, discovered outside the courthouse with documents bearing Richardson’s name, was crucial evidence. Despite admitting ownership of the firearm, Richardson managed to break free from police custody and made the fatal leap from the window.
Having spent 15 days in custody for the drug offense, Richardson had only recently been released before the unfortunate incident.
Previous records show Richardson’s involvement in concealing a weapon in Michigan and an arrest in 2013 for aggravated assault and battery.
An eyewitness, local student Rehmet Khan, described the sudden and shocking event as a loud noise interrupting their pre-class gathering.
Deputy Sheriff Dan Cochran of Fulton County expressed the community’s shock and dismay over the tragic turn of events.
