“Widower Found Dead After Wife’s Cancer Death, Homicide Probe Launched”

A man in mourning was found dead in his residence shortly after his wife succumbed to cancer, leading authorities to open a homicide investigation.

Responding to a reported attack on October 16, emergency services hurried to a home in Matley Gardens, Totton. Nigel Key, aged 51, was discovered with severe injuries. Despite medical intervention, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hampshire Police confirmed the discovery of another man at the location with serious injuries. The 31-year-old individual has been arrested on suspicion of murder. This tragic incident occurred shortly after the death of Mr. Key’s wife, Sheila, from cancer. The couple jointly operated a construction consulting business. Sheila passed away just two months after her October 2 diagnosis.

Prior to his own passing, Mr. Key shared his grief on social media over his wife’s demise, stating that it had left a significant void in the world and in their hearts, as reported by Mail Online. He paid tribute to his “amazing wife, mum, and nan” just days before her passing, highlighting her courageous battle with treatments that unfortunately ended sooner than expected.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Police stated: “Upon receiving a report of a serious assault at an address in Matley Gardens, Totton, on Thursday, October 16 at 1:32 pm, officers quickly responded, along with South Central Ambulance Service. A 51-year-old Totton resident was declared deceased at the scene. His family has been informed and is receiving specialized support.

“A 31-year-old Totton resident has been detained on suspicion of murder and is currently receiving medical attention in a hospital, with plans for custody thereafter. Authorities are on-site as the investigation progresses to ascertain the sequence of events. Individuals with pertinent information or concerns are encouraged to contact our Neighbourhood Policing Team patrols in the vicinity.”
