Four individuals implicated in a London, Ontario investigation concerning the manufacturing of explosives and firearms are now confronting 19 additional charges, as reported in court documents submitted on Tuesday. The accused include Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, who were initially charged in January. All four have ties to Western University, either as students or recent graduates, with the male individuals having backgrounds in the engineering department.
The updated charges filed with the Ontario Court of Justice bring the total number of counts to 31, comprising joint charges against all four individuals as well as specific charges against each accused. The fresh allegations encompass possession of five distinct explosive materials, possession of stolen property, and unauthorized access to computer data associated with firearm production.
The investigation, which commenced on Jan. 24 following a trespassing incident at Western University involving two individuals, led to the arrest of one person near an engineering building on campus. Subsequently, the police apprehended the remaining three suspects at a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood. Law enforcement authorities conducted an extensive search over several days at the residence located at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, in addition to two other properties in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Initial charges against the quartet primarily involved firearms offenses, including the creation and possession of firearms. Tong, Wang, and Ji now face supplementary charges for possessing firearm accessories, prohibited firearms, and unauthorized firearms storage. Tong also faces charges related to activities in other cities, such as storing rifles in Orléans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle in an unauthorized location in Quebec.
Furthermore, Wang is accused of weapon production between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, while both Wang and Tong are charged with breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025. The defendants are also charged with possessing a range of explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide.
In total, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20, Han faces 11, and Ji faces 13. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with two individuals released on bail and the other two remaining in custody. Tong did not seek bail and is currently detained, while Han was denied bail and remanded in February. Wang was granted bail in March under strict conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and supervision by two sureties, each posting $200,000. Ji is also out on bail without any sureties.
