“Vandal Strikes Cricket Club and Cemetery: Authorities Investigate”

Security cameras have recorded a vandal defacing a cricket club with obscene graffiti, with authorities linking the same individual to vandalism at a nearby cemetery. Willesborough Cemetery in Ashford was targeted with offensive tags earlier this month, causing distress to mourning families.

Footage from a security camera at the cricket club captured a hooded figure dressed in black spray-painting similar shapes on the wall, causing significant damage. The vandal, suspected to be the same person responsible for previous incidents since July, also caused destruction at the club by tearing down wall-mounted ashtrays.

The club spokesperson reported that the suspect struck repeatedly between 6.30pm and 8.30pm over a week in September, causing damage each time. The individual returned sporadically, most recently on October 16, escalating the destruction by ripping off a wall-mounted ashtray.

The cost of repairs is estimated to be around £2,000, with concerns raised about potential additional expenses for repainting due to the use of graffiti removers. The continuous damage has frustrated the club and its members, diverting funds from community cricket facility improvements.

Meanwhile, the offensive graffiti at the cemetery, discovered on October 10, disturbed visitors with its disrespectful content, prompting the installation of fencing for security. Police are investigating the incidents at the cricket club, while the Ashford Borough Council addresses the damage at the cemetery.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage as part of the ongoing inquiries to determine any links between the two sets of vandalism. The council spokesperson expressed sadness over the incidents at Willesborough Cemetery and assured ongoing restoration efforts to repair the affected memorials.
