UK Braces for Arctic Chill: Snow and Sleet Alert

Parts of the United Kingdom are advised to prepare for possible sleet and snowfall over the upcoming weekend, as the Met Office alerts the public to an Arctic chill moving in and causing a noticeable drop in temperatures.

Meteorologists indicate that a cold front will follow Storm Benjamin, ushering in cold air from the north and creating raw and chilly conditions across the nation. The Met Office cautions residents in higher elevations to be ready for wintry weather as the cold spell grips the UK.

In the coming days, temperatures are set to plummet, increasing the likelihood of sleet and snow, especially in areas like the Scottish Highlands and Grampians. The freezing level is predicted to decrease, particularly in Scotland, potentially leading to snow and sleet in the higher regions.

Weather projections from the Met Office show snow showers in northern Scotland on Saturday, with some lingering into Sunday. While the most intense wintry conditions are anticipated in elevated areas, a general cold snap is expected nationwide, with frost potentially affecting even urban areas.

The Met Office assures that the snow and sleet are not anticipated to cause major disruptions, stating that these weather patterns are common for late October. However, individuals venturing into mountainous areas are advised to stay prepared.

Temperatures are forecasted to remain below average, struggling to reach double digits in most regions. Highs are projected to be around 11C in England, 10C in Wales, 8C in Scotland, and 7C in Northern Ireland on Saturday, with little change expected on Sunday.

The wind factor is expected to make it feel even colder, especially in northern and eastern Scotland, according to the Met Office’s assessment.
