“UK Airport Disturbance Linked to Burnout”

A mother who consumed wine at a UK airport before causing a disturbance when denied boarding for being intoxicated has attributed her behavior to experiencing burnout.

Leanne Burns, a 44-year-old mother of two, had planned a trip to Faro, Portugal, during last year’s October half term. Upon reaching Manchester Airport, she ensured her children, aged eight and five, had refreshments before ordering a drink for herself at the bar. Subsequently, she bought a bottle of wine from duty-free and continued drinking.

Upon being prevented from boarding the plane, Leanne reacted by shouting and demanding entry, leading to her arrest, airline ban, and an overnight stay in a cell before being released without charges the following day.

Nearly a year later, Leanne has withdrawn from social media, sought counseling, and focused on eliminating negativity from her life. She expressed regret over the incident, acknowledging her mistake and aiming to rebuild her social life while maintaining her role as a good mother.

Leanne, a caregiver, confessed to feeling overwhelmed at the time of the incident due to burnout. Despite completing the London Marathon and taking her children to Turkey in 2024, she felt insufficiently present for her kids amid her busy schedule and family responsibilities.

Reflecting on the events leading to her arrest, Leanne recounted feeling a sense of panic and escalating emotions, which culminated in her outburst at the airport. Following the incident, she underwent cognitive behavioral therapy, emphasizing the importance of seeking help and communication in managing personal struggles.

Leanne’s transformation journey includes a renewed focus on self-care, exercise, counseling, and mindfulness. She encourages others to address their mental health concerns proactively by seeking professional assistance and engaging in open dialogues with loved ones.
