“Trump Urges Ceasefire as Tensions Rise with Ukraine”

Donald Trump and Vlodymyr Zelensky engaged in a heated exchange during a meeting where Zelensky sought Tomahawk missiles but did not receive them. Following a lengthy White House meeting on Friday, Trump publicly urged both Kyiv and Moscow to halt their ongoing conflict. Despite a seemingly more amicable atmosphere compared to their previous Oval Office meeting in February, tensions were still evident.

Trump’s frustration with the situation has been evident since his return to office, and he now appears to be leaning towards pressuring Ukraine to cease efforts to reclaim lost territory from Russia. A report by the Financial Times indicated that Trump was frequently using profanity during the meeting, which escalated into a contentious exchange. He reportedly cautioned Zelensky that Russia would devastate Ukraine unless Zelensky agreed to Russia’s terms for ending the conflict.

During the talks, there was discussion about Ukraine relinquishing the entire Donbas region, but ultimately an agreement was reached for the US to support a freeze on the current frontlines. Trump also indicated reluctance towards providing Zelensky with long-range Tomahawk missiles, a move that Ukraine believed could influence Putin towards negotiations.

Zelensky proposed a plan where Ukraine would offer the US advanced drones in exchange for Tomahawk cruise missiles. However, Trump expressed hesitance in tapping into the US supply, a shift from earlier indications of considering sending the missiles to assist Ukraine against Russia.

In a public statement, Trump emphasized the importance of maintaining a well-stocked arsenal for national security. He reiterated a preference for peace over the need for military actions. Trump’s message to Zelensky included a stark warning about the potential consequences of failing to reach a deal with Russia.

At one point, Trump reportedly displayed frustration by throwing a map of the frontline on the table, expressing his weariness with the ongoing conflict. After the meeting, Trump took to social media to call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and suggested that Moscow retain the territory it had taken from Kyiv.

Upon his arrival in Florida, Trump continued to urge both sides to end the conflict promptly. He implied that Moscow should maintain control over the territories it had captured from Kyiv.
