“Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie Distance Themselves”

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have taken a significant decision following Prince Andrew’s announcement to relinquish his royal titles. The embattled Prince, 65, recently disclosed that he had been consulting with his brother, King Charles, regarding his role within the Royal Family.

In past years, Prince Andrew has been embroiled in controversy due to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Allegations surfaced in a 2014 court filing in Florida, accusing him of engaging in sexual activities with a minor, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, reportedly trafficked by Epstein in March 2001.

Despite vehemently denying all accusations during a BBC Newsnight interview in November 2019, where he claimed never to have met Virginia and detailed an alibi for the alleged incident, recent revelations, including an email to Epstein in 2011, have contradicted his previous statements. Consequently, Prince Andrew declared his decision to forego his Duke of York title and other royal honors to prevent further distraction from the monarchy’s duties.

In light of the heightened scrutiny on Prince Andrew, his daughters Princess Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 35, opted to withdraw from a public event at the British Museum over the weekend. The event, resembling the renowned Met Gala in New York, was attended by notable figures, including Naomi Campbell, Janet Jackson, and Lady Kitty Spencer, but the royal sisters were notably absent.

While Princess Beatrice and Eugenie retain their Princess of York titles by birth and remain unaffected by their father’s title renouncement, their mother, Sarah Duchess of York, also loses her courtesy title in line with Prince Andrew’s decision.

In a rare statement from Buckingham Palace, Prince Andrew emphasized that the ongoing accusations against him detracted from the monarchy’s work, prompting his choice to step back further from official duties. He reiterated his denial of the allegations and underscored his commitment to prioritize family and country over public obligations.

However, there is speculation that the government could potentially strip Prince Andrew of his Prince title through Letters Patent if issued by the King. Energy Secretary Ed Milliband emphasized the importance of allowing the royal family to make decisions on such matters, expressing sympathy for Virginia Giuffre and her family amid the unfolding situation.

Prince Andrew continues to refute all allegations made against him, with Buckingham Palace being contacted for further comment on the matter.
