Nigel Farage is under pressure to address his silence following a statement from a Reform MP expressing frustration over seeing advertisements featuring Black and Asian individuals. Anna Turley, who leads the Labour Party, has written to Farage urging him to address the remarks made by Sarah Pochin. Pochin, a Member of Parliament for Runcorn and Helsby, voiced her discontent during a Talk TV segment, stating, “It bothers me when I see ads filled with Black and Asian people, anyone who isn’t white.”
Turley criticized Farage for not denouncing Pochin’s comments, labeling them as racist. She called on him to take action by removing Pochin from Reform UK. Health Secretary Wes Streeting condemned Pochin’s remarks, emphasizing the need for accountability from Farage. Deputy PM David Lammy also called for Pochin’s dismissal, describing her comments as “deeply racist.”
In response to the backlash, Pochin apologized for any offense caused by her remarks but insisted that many ads do not accurately represent British society. Streeting suggested that her apology was insincere and that she was only sorry for being caught. Lammy expressed his disgust over Pochin’s statements, emphasizing the importance of unity and respect in the country.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Reform UK have been made by the Mirror. Turley directly addressed Farage, urging him to take a stance on the matter and demanding clarity on Reform’s official position. She reiterated that Pochin’s comments were unacceptable and emphasized the need for immediate action. Turley awaits an urgent response from Farage.
