“Orkney Islands Named Best Place to Raise a Family in UK”

A recent survey conducted by Halifax focusing on the quality of life for children has pinpointed the leading locations in the UK suitable for raising families, with a notable concentration in a specific region. The survey took into account various factors such as employment opportunities, housing sizes, broadband availability, traffic conditions, and the overall well-being reported by adults. The findings highlighted that a majority of the top-ranked places were situated in Scotland, demonstrating a strong presence from both northern and southern regions of England. Notably, the top three spots were all claimed by Scottish destinations.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Orkney Islands in Scotland have been recognized as the premier location to live with a family in the UK. The survey attributed Orkney’s top ranking to its high employment rates, low crime statistics, exceptional exam performance, and smaller class sizes in primary schools. The leader of Orkney Islands council, James Stockan, expressed delight over the recognition, emphasizing the community’s traditional values coupled with a forward-thinking and ambitious mindset that makes Orkney a unique and exceptional place to reside and work.

Nestled off the northern coast of mainland Scotland, the Orkney Islands boast stunning landscapes and panoramic sea views, providing residents with a refreshing environment. The region’s natural beauty encourages outdoor activities with ample opportunities for leisurely walks, sea excursions, and wildlife exploration. In addition to its picturesque setting, Orkney is steeped in history, housing ancient monuments like the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site, Taversoe Tuick burial cairn, and the historic Midhowe Broch.

Russell Galley, the managing director at Halifax, hailed the Orkney Islands’ consistent success, attributing it to factors like robust education and employment rates, low crime levels, and the residents’ high satisfaction with life. The Shetland Islands and the Western Isles, both in Scotland, also secured places in the top three, with the former boasting the highest employment rate in Great Britain and the latter showcasing exceptional levels of personal well-being.

The ranking of the top ten places for quality of life in the UK includes the Orkney Islands at the pinnacle, followed by the Shetland Islands and the Western Isles, all located in Scotland. Additionally, Hambleton in North Yorkshire, South Oxfordshire, Ribble Valley in Yorkshire, West Somerset, Mole Valley in Surrey, Chilterns, and West Oxfordshire complete the list of highly ranked locations for families seeking an enhanced quality of life.
