A tragic incident occurred during a family holiday, resulting in the death of a mother and her two children due to suspected poisoning. The Böcek family, German citizens residing in Hamburg, had traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, and were staying at a hotel in the Fatih district. The family members were initially treated for symptoms of nausea and vomiting, then discharged. However, they had to return to the hospital after their three-year-old daughter, Masal, became unresponsive.
Despite medical efforts, Masal and her six-year-old brother, Kadir Muhammet, could not be saved. The mother, 27-year-old Çiğdem, passed away in intensive care, while her husband, 36-year-old Servet, remains hospitalized in critical condition. The hotel where they were staying was evacuated and sealed after two other guests also showed signs of poisoning.
Investigations revealed that pest control had been recently conducted in a room on the ground floor of the hotel. Authorities have taken into custody four individuals from establishments where the family dined, as well as the hotel owner and a pest control company owner and employee. The substances used during the pest control are under scrutiny.
The tragic incident has left the family and the community devastated. Çiğdem, Masal, and Kadir Muhammet were laid to rest in Bolvadin, Afyonkarahisar Province. Servet’s uncle, Recep Yılmaz, expressed outrage over the situation, urging for justice to be served for the loss of his family members.
