Monty Don, the well-known host of BBC Gardeners’ World, recently shared his dislike for a popular plant that is commonly found in British gardens. During a podcast discussion, Monty mentioned that despite his role on the BBC program requiring a diverse range of features to cater to various tastes, he personally isn’t fond of certain elements in gardens.
While expressing his preferences, Monty revealed that he is not a fan of hanging baskets and bedding, specifically mentioning his lack of interest in chrysanthemums. Despite this, he emphasized that while these choices may not align with his personal taste, he respects others’ preferences.
In a column for the Daily Mail, Monty offered advice on maintaining hanging baskets during the summer months, highlighting the need for more frequent watering due to their faster drying nature. He suggested using a watering lance for hard-to-reach areas or incorporating moisture-retaining techniques when planting the baskets.
Monty recommended lining the baskets with garden moss to retain moisture and using evergreen clippings to bind the soil. Additionally, he advised using recycled plastic to cover the moss and help trap moisture while ensuring proper drainage.
Even though Monty may not favor certain garden features, his valuable tips on caring for plants, including hanging baskets, continue to assist gardening enthusiasts in nurturing their green spaces.
