Michelle Mone Linked Company Buys $10M Florida Home

After being instructed to repay £122 million due to questionable PPE dealings, a company associated with Michelle Mone has caused renewed outrage by purchasing a lavish $10 million home in Florida. The property, located on Fisher Island, known as “Billionaire Island,” was acquired by Barrowman Group, linked to Mone’s husband, Douglas Barrowman, in July. This purchase occurred prior to a court order demanding PPE Medpro, owned by a group led by Mone’s husband, to return funds received from the government for defective surgical gowns.

Deborah Doyle, who lost her mother in a care home during the pandemic, expressed dismay over the home purchase, stating it added insult to injury for those affected by the faulty PPE scandal. The Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice group criticized the acquisition, emphasizing the outstanding debt owed to the public amidst the ongoing repercussions of inadequate protective equipment.

The secluded Fisher Island, accessed only by boat or helicopter, has been home to celebrities like Julia Roberts, Mel Brooks, and Oprah Winfrey. Mark Williams-Thomas, representing Mone, clarified that Barrowman’s property investment activities were routine, including the recent purchase intended for refurbishment and resale.

In response to the controversy, Health Secretary Wes Streeting vowed to pursue PPE Medpro vigorously to retrieve the misused funds and ensure accountability. Mone’s alleged involvement in recommending the firm for government contracts further fueled public scrutiny, with demands for her removal from prestigious titles and positions.

Despite claims of innocence and being unjustly targeted, Mone and her associates face mounting pressure to address the financial discrepancies surrounding the PPE scandal. The government’s pursuit of a settlement with the consortium highlights the ongoing efforts to rectify the situation and uphold transparency in public dealings.
