“Keir Starmer Unveils £400M Transportation Contracts at G20 Summit”

Keir Starmer is poised to reveal contracts totaling £400 million for various transportation sectors, including trains, planes, and submarines, aiming to bolster British workforce engagement at the G20 summit.

During the evening on Thursday, the Prime Minister embarked on a journey to the international assembly in South Africa, where he intends to advocate for British enterprises in anticipation of next week’s crucial Budget announcement.

The forthcoming financial declaration by Rachel Reeves is anticipated to feature substantial initiatives to alleviate the ongoing cost of living crisis and enhance the financial well-being of the working populace.

Mr. Starmer emphasized that collaborating with global partners is instrumental in fostering economic expansion. As part of his rapid visit to South Africa, the Prime Minister is scheduled to tour a train maintenance facility in Johannesburg, showcasing trains manufactured in Derby.

An upcoming pact between the UK and South Africa will see British expertise aid in revamping the country’s rail network. Crossrail International, a UK Government-owned entity, will offer strategic counsel to attract private investments into South Africa’s rail industry.

Additionally, the UK is joining forces with Vietnam to facilitate a digital modernization initiative for Vietnam’s railway systems.

British Steel is set to receive a boost by supplying an additional £35 million worth of products to Turkey’s high-speed rail network. Moreover, Rolls Royce is slated to provide new jet engines to Air Algerie.

Furthermore, the UK has secured an initial contract to assist the South African Navy in evaluating the operational readiness of their Type 209 submarines and conducting essential maintenance. This contract marks Babcock, a British defense firm’s, first defense agreement in South Africa.

A new agreement between the UK and South Africa aims to streamline bureaucratic processes, potentially adding between £400 million and £700 million to UK businesses over the next five years.
