Jake Paul’s promotional company has issued a statement in response to allegations against Gervonta Davis, Paul’s scheduled opponent in an upcoming exhibition fight. Despite the accusations of battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping made by Davis’s ex-girlfriend, the bout between Paul and Davis is set to take place in Miami on November 14. The fight, which would not impact their professional records, will have a winner determined by stoppage or by judges, including an AI official if necessary.
Amid calls for the fight’s cancellation, reports surfaced that Paul had considered Ryan Garcia as a replacement for Davis. However, Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s promotional company, confirmed that no decision had been finalized and that they are currently investigating the situation. The statement emphasized their condemnation of violence and their commitment to handling the matter with thoroughness and respect for all involved.
Davis has not responded to the accusations, but his trainer dismissed them as baseless. According to the lawsuit, Davis allegedly assaulted his ex-partner at her workplace and had previously made threats against her life. The lawsuit also claims multiple instances of physical assault and choking, with the ex-partner seeking damages and a jury trial.
Regarding the potential replacement of Davis with Ryan Garcia, promoter Oscar De La Hoya explained that contractual obligations between DAZN, Golden Boy, and Netflix would prevent the fight from happening. As a result, Paul may delay his return to the ring until December, with past speculations linking him to a matchup with heavyweight Anthony Joshua unlikely to materialize on short notice.
