“Ghanaian NHS Worker Attacked During Amateur Football Match”

An individual playing amateur football was hospitalized with a fractured skull following an incident in a low-tier match in Liverpool. Richard Agbasoga, an overseas student from Ghana and a temporary worker for the NHS, was reportedly attacked by unauthorized individuals during a game between Ormskirk West End and Calci FC. The attackers allegedly punched and kicked him, causing serious injuries. Despite the incident, no formal complaint has been lodged with Merseyside Police.

The match was disrupted when Agbasoga’s team was leading 2-0, shortly after another player from his team was headbutted. Calci FC’s fixtures have been put on hold pending an investigation by the Liverpool County FA’s disciplinary department. A fundraising page has been set up by Ormskirk West End to support Agbasoga during his recovery, as he is ineligible for sick pay.

The GoFundMe page for Agbasoga has received over £2,400 in donations from more than 70 contributors, with amounts ranging from £5 to £150. Social media users have expressed support for Agbasoga, condemning the violent attack and emphasizing the need to keep sports free from violence.

Sky has announced a price reduction on its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, offering savings of £192 and over 1,400 live matches, including a minimum of 215 live Premier League games.
