Fury and Joshua Agree to Heavyweight Showdown

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have reportedly reached an agreement to face off in an eagerly anticipated heavyweight battle, with key details now disclosed.

In December, news surfaced that the long-standing feud between the two fighters would be settled in the boxing ring in 2026. However, shortly after scoring a knockout victory over Jake Paul during the recent Christmas period, Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria, resulting in the tragic deaths of his close friends Sina Ghami and Lateef ‘Latz’ Ayodele.

Despite concerns that Joshua might not return to the ring following the near-fatal accident, the former two-time heavyweight champion is now back to light training, contemplating a potential ring comeback this summer. Speculation suggests that Joshua might first square off against former rival Dillian Whyte before pursuing a clash with Fury.

According to boxing journalist Gareth A Davies, both Fury and Joshua have officially agreed to meet in the ring. Davies disclosed on talkSPORT that the fight has been signed off, with plans for it to be broadcast on Netflix, possibly taking place either later this year or in the coming year, while Joshua is expected to make his ring comeback in June or July.

Netflix is set to air Fury’s return on April 11. Last year, Fury surprised fans by announcing his retirement from boxing, only to later announce his comeback, with a scheduled fight against Russian knockout artist Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Netflix has become a prominent platform for boxing, showcasing high-profile fights such as Paul vs Joshua, Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano, and Paul vs Mike Tyson.

Joshua is nearing a return to full training, preparing for a potential ring return later this year. Despite the hurdles, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, remains optimistic about the possibility of a British heavyweight showdown between Fury and Joshua, aiming for a late summer return for Joshua before potentially setting up a clash with Fury towards the end of the year or early 2027.
