Ferrari’s president, John Elkann, has criticized Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc after a disappointing Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Elkann advised the drivers to focus more on driving and speak less following their failure to earn any points in the race, with both retiring due to separate incidents.
Simultaneously, Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship team triumphed at the Eight Hours of Bahrain. Italian Alessandro Pier Guidi, former Sauber F1 racer Antonio Giovinazzi, and Britain’s James Calado secured the drivers’ title, while Ferrari dominated the manufacturers’ standings, finishing 74 points ahead.
The Formula 1 season has been challenging, particularly for Hamilton, who struggled to adapt. Despite Leclerc’s consistent performance, Ferrari has faced deeper issues this year, evident by their lack of Grand Prix victories.
Elkann, present in Bahrain during the Grand Prix, blamed the drivers for Ferrari’s lack of competitiveness. He praised the team’s mechanics and engineers for their contributions but emphasized the need for drivers to prioritize driving over talking.
Currently, Ferrari holds the fourth spot in the constructors’ championship, trailing behind Mercedes and Red Bull. They are the only top-four team yet to win a Grand Prix in 2025.
Hamilton, who finished 13th in Sao Paulo, expressed frustration over Ferrari’s ongoing struggles. Leclerc acknowledged the challenges of securing second place in the constructors’ championship, emphasizing the team’s collective effort to improve performance.
