Joe Cullen has taken to social media to criticize Mensur Suljovic, accusing the experienced darts player of dishonesty. The player from Bradford faced a disappointing loss to the Austrian during a tense second-round match at the World Darts Championship.
Suljovic made an impressive comeback after losing a set to claim a 3-1 victory over Cullen at Alexandra Palace. Throughout the game, Cullen showed signs of frustration by checking his watch and quietly urging Suljovic to speed up his throws at the oche.
Although Suljovic is known for his slower pace compared to other players, Cullen expressed growing irritation at his opponent’s deliberate play and prolonged celebrations. After the match, tensions escalated during the handshake as Cullen exchanged sharp words with Suljovic, who responded with laughter.
As Cullen exited the stage, he paused, turned back, and glared at Suljovic while the Austrian celebrated with the audience. Cullen did not hold back in his passionate social media outburst, stating that he viewed Suljovic’s behavior as cheating and not in line with the spirit of darts.
In response to Cullen’s outburst and questions about his slow play during the press conference, Suljovic seemed puzzled. He mentioned that he had never personally apologized to Cullen and defended his playing style, emphasizing that each player has their unique approach.
Looking ahead, Suljovic could potentially face defending world champion Luke Littler in the next round. Littler, an 18-year-old, is set to compete against darts player and NHS area manager David Davies in his upcoming match.
The PDC World Darts Championship commenced on December 11, offering fans the opportunity to watch every match live exclusively with Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
