“Cheque Deposits Removed at Post Office for Lloyds Customers”

Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland customers are no longer able to deposit cheques at the Post Office following a recent change. Despite ongoing bank branch closures, customers can still withdraw and deposit cash at Post Office branches. The banking group, serving approximately 28 million customers, removed the cheque deposit option last month.

Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of an additional 95 bank branches between May 2022 and March 2027, including branches from Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland. Over the past decade, Lloyds Banking Group has shut down 1,470 sites. In response to the closures, the cash access network Link has identified 14 new locations to establish banking hubs to ensure continued access to cash nationwide.

A spokesperson from Lloyds mentioned that most customers now prefer using the bank’s app to deposit cheques conveniently by taking a photo on their phones. For customers who require it, a new freepost cheque service has been introduced. While the exact impact on staff due to the closures was not disclosed, affected employees will be offered roles at other locations within the company.

The ongoing closures will result in a total of 610 branches remaining for Lloyds. A company spokeswoman emphasized the importance of offering customers multiple banking options, including mobile apps, messaging services, community bankers, PayPoint, and access to physical branches, to cater to individual preferences and banking needs.
