“British Woman Killed in Portugal Tornado Tragedy”

A tragic incident occurred in Portugal where a British woman lost her life due to a destructive weather event described as a ‘tornado.’ The 85-year-old victim was staying at the HolaCamp site near Albufeira in the Algarve region. This unexpected occurrence, coinciding with Storm Claudia’s impact on Portugal, resulted in the death of the woman and injuries to 28 others.

The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was initially reported missing but was later found deceased amidst the debris. Witnesses at the scene recounted how strong winds caused chaos, forcing holidaymakers to seek shelter. Authorities have labeled this event as an “extreme wind phenomenon,” with Portugal’s weather agency suggesting a high likelihood of it being a tornado.

According to reports, a total of 28 individuals, including British, Portuguese, and Spanish nationals aged between six and 86, sustained injuries. The storm ravaged the Hotel Eden, leaving 19 injured, with one in critical condition. Additionally, two individuals suffered severe injuries at the campsite where the British victim was tragically found.

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expressed condolences to the victim’s family, acknowledging the devastation caused by Storm Claudia in Albufeira. Albufeira mayor Rui Cristina extended sympathies to the affected families, emphasizing the efforts to provide assistance and restore normalcy swiftly in the wake of the calamity.
