Aldi has recently implemented price reductions on a wide range of products throughout January, covering various categories such as fresh and frozen foods, pantry staples, household necessities, and personal care items. Notable discounts include red lentils reduced to 99p from £1.39, porridge sachets now priced at 79p down from 99p, and organic steel cut oats marked at £1.99 from £2.19.
Moreover, Aldi has lowered prices on items like beef and pork Bolognese mince, pork and gammon joints, and Specially Selected British cheese, offering savings to customers. Additional reductions encompass sweetcorn, large free-range eggs, and selected products including no beef flank steak and vegetable pieces and meatballs.
The recent price adjustments in January represent a total investment exceeding £22 million aimed at providing customers with more affordable options. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, emphasized the commitment to continually reviewing prices to offer the best value without compromising quality, particularly focusing on healthy choices among everyday products.
In line with their price reduction strategy, Aldi has announced plans to open 40 new stores in the UK this year, with a significant investment of £370 million. This initiative is part of a broader two-year investment program totaling £1.6 billion, as Aldi aims to reach a goal of 1,500 stores in the UK. Recent store openings in 2025 include locations like Kirkintilloch, Eastbourne, Fulham Broadway, and Deeside, reinforcing Aldi’s expansion efforts.
Aldi’s commitment to affordability was recognized as it was named the cheapest supermarket in 2025 by Which? consumer rights magazine. Throughout the year, Aldi maintained its position as the cheapest supermarket for ten out of 12 months, with Lidl claiming the top spot twice in July and October. The average monthly price difference between Aldi and Lidl was just 77p, with Aldi emerging as the cheapest supermarket in December for a list of 68 items, closely followed by Lidl.
Customers looking for savings and value in their grocery shopping can benefit from Aldi’s ongoing efforts to provide competitive prices while expanding its presence across the UK.
