Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing assault charges following a severe injury to Teddy Allen, a player for the Winnipeg Sea Bears, earlier this month. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 3, resulting in Allen being hospitalized. The Canadian Elite Basketball League team confirmed the assault.
The individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the establishment, were apprehended on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have since been released on undertakings, as stated in a news release by the police on Thursday. Although the specific nightclub was not disclosed, authorities mentioned it was located on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues.
In a statement relayed by the team on Thursday, Allen shared that he has undergone medical examinations, received a diagnosis, and is currently recovering at home. He expressed that the assault was unwarranted and should not have occurred, emphasizing his determination to bounce back from the ordeal.
