Oliver Bearman visibly showed signs of distress after a high-speed collision during the Japanese Grand Prix. The British racer urgently signaled for assistance from track marshals after his Formula 1 car spun out of control and crashed into a barrier.
Upon being helped out of the vehicle by two marshals, Bearman appeared to be in significant pain, limping and eventually collapsing behind the barrier while clutching his right lower leg and ankle. The medical car was promptly dispatched to attend to him.
Bearman was then taken to the circuit medical center for further evaluation. A Haas team representative later confirmed that X-rays revealed no fractures, only a bruise on his right knee.
The incident caused a delay in the Grand Prix as the damaged Haas car needed to be removed, and repairs were necessary on the barrier it had hit.
The race resumed with Kimi Antonelli leading the restart on lap 28, benefitting from strategic timing after the safety car period. Antonelli maintained his lead, with Oscar Piastri in second place behind him, though the McLaren driver started to lose ground.
Antonelli’s lead was further solidified by Lewis Hamilton, who overtook George Russell to secure third place and put pressure on his former Mercedes teammate trailing behind.
Russell expressed frustration over his misfortune on team radio after pitting moments before the safety car intervention, while Antonelli capitalized on the situation to reclaim his lead.
As the race progressed, Russell faced more challenges, including a deployment issue that caused him to fall further down the rankings, allowing Charles Leclerc to pass him in the second Ferrari.
Piastri maintained his second-place position ahead of Hamilton, who was gradually losing pace compared to race leader Antonelli.
Lando Norris struggled to advance from sixth place, while Max Verstappen encountered similar difficulties further back, trying to overtake Pierre Gasly in his Red Bull car.
