The club is strategizing for the mid-season period following a streak of three consecutive victories, believing that substantial recruitment is unnecessary for Ruben Amorim to sustain their positive progression.
Amorim is currently experiencing his most successful tenure at United after the team’s 4-2 triumph over Brighton. The club now occupies the sixth position in the Premier League standings, one point ahead of Liverpool, whom they defeated 2-1 in the previous week.
While summer signings Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko are starting to gel, there have been suggestions that United might need further investment in the upcoming transfer window. Despite a significant expenditure on attacking reinforcements in the summer, the club did not secure midfield additions.
Amorim has paired Casemiro with Bruno Fernandes in the central midfield over the last three matches and is keen on acquiring new talent. Reports indicate that United has identified six midfield targets, including Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace, Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
Nevertheless, Sky Sports reveals that United’s top officials are resolute in adhering to their current strategy and avoiding major expenditures in January. They prefer to delay significant spending until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season to allow for more time to offload players.
Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox are reportedly aiming for a top-six finish in the Premier League this season, which would grant United a return to European competition after missing out in the previous campaign.
United’s owners, Ineos, are reportedly content with the progress under Amorim and his coaching staff, especially considering the challenging start to the season. Without European commitments, the club has had more time to prepare for league matches and is displaying improved consistency ahead of their upcoming fixture against Nottingham Forest.
Following the win against Brighton, Amorim expressed his belief that the team is growing in confidence and playing with a liberated spirit, attributing some recent success to a shift in mentality.
United is purportedly inclined to maintain their current squad in January, potentially blocking the departures of Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee. This decision is partly influenced by the possible involvement of Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui in the Africa Cup of Nations in the New Year.
