Emma Raducanu has expressed that she is not in a hurry to secure a new long-term coach following her recent split with another coach earlier this year. Raducanu decided to part ways with Francisco Roig after the Australian Open and is now adopting a different coaching approach.
Roig was Raducanu’s ninth coach and seventh full-time official coach to be let go during her career. The 2021 US Open champion chose to part with Roig, who had previously collaborated with Rafael Nadal for 18 years, due to differing opinions on her playing style.
Since January, Raducanu has been collaborating with her hitting partner, Alexis Canter, and is content with the current setup as she prepares for the Indian Wells tournament in California, where she is set to compete against Anastasia Zakharova in the initial round.
While the 23-year-old has worked with several coaches in the past, including Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Nick Cavaday, Vladimir Platenik, Mark Petchey, and Roig, she continues to work closely with Petchey on a day-to-day basis. However, due to his commitments as a broadcaster with the Tennis Channel, Petchey is not available full-time.
Raducanu shared her current perspective during an interview with BBC Sport in California, stating that she is focused on reconnecting with her instincts and natural playing style. She expressed a desire to avoid the pressure of having a single coach dictate her game and is open to seeking guidance from various sources.
Praising the impact of Petchey on her game, Raducanu commended his support and influence during their collaboration at Wimbledon last summer. She emphasized the value of their deep conversations and the insights gained from their interactions, highlighting the positive impact on her tennis performance and personal growth.
