Father Denies Baby’s Death Charges, Portrays Himself as Exceptional Parent

A man facing charges of mistreating and causing the death of his three-month-old baby son has asserted to a court that he was an exceptional father. Klevi Pirjani, aged 37, and his wife Nivalda Santos Pirjani, 34, are currently undergoing trial at Liverpool Crown Court for the alleged murder of their son Miguel, who suffered cardiac arrest leading to his demise in November the previous year. Medical reports revealed that Miguel had a fractured skull, brain bleeding, and multiple fractures of different ages.

Accusations suggest that Miguel’s parents subjected him to systematic abuse before his passing. While they both deny this accusation, the mother has admitted to one count of causing or allowing the death of a child. During his testimony in court, Klevi Pirjani, a former chef and digger driver, portrayed himself as an exemplary father, expressing his deep love and concern for his son’s well-being.

Emergency responders were swiftly summoned to the Pirjanis’ residence on Percy Road in Seacombe, Wirral, on November 24, 2024, where they found Miguel in a critical condition. He was promptly transported to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The medical team discovered various injuries on Miguel, including head bruising, skull fissure, brain bleeding, and fractures in different parts of his body. Prosecutors emphasized that the injuries sustained by Miguel indicated a pattern of severe and deliberate harm.

Miguel remained in an unconscious state for several days, with his injuries deemed irreversible. Following the withdrawal of life support on November 29, 2024, he succumbed to a fatal brain injury. Further examinations post-mortem revealed additional injuries, reinforcing the notion of deliberate harm inflicted on the infant.

During questioning, Klevi Pirjani shared his tumultuous past, having fled his homeland of Albania due to war-related tragedies. He met his wife in 2013 and relocated to Liverpool to be with her, describing their relationship as initially strong but later marred by his wife’s peculiar behavior and alleged aggression.

Pirjani refuted claims of violence towards his son and emphasized his active involvement in seeking medical care for Miguel. He recounted the distressing events leading up to Miguel’s emergency medical response on the night of November 23, 2024, highlighting his urgent actions to seek help for his ailing son.

The court proceedings have shed light on conflicting testimonies between the accused, with Nivalda accusing Klevi of abusive behavior while Klevi maintains his innocence and questions the allegations made against him. The trial, overseen by Mr Justice Baker, is ongoing as both defendants deny the charges brought against them.
