Legendary producer and co-founder of Buggles, Trevor Horn surprised fans with an unexpected performance at O2 Forum Kentish Town in London alongside rising artist Sophie Grey. The duo delighted the crowd by performing “Video Killed the Radio Star,” receiving high praise on social media for their impromptu collaboration.
Fans were thrilled to witness Trevor Horn join Sophie Grey on stage, playing a rendition of the iconic hit “Video Killed the Radio Star.” The unexpected duet seamlessly blended Sophie’s Retro Electro style with the song’s classic new-wave vibe, creating a standout moment in her set.
Following the release of her new version of the track, which features a futuristic synth production and a touch of nostalgia, Sophie expressed that “Video Killed the Radio Star” remains a timeless song reflecting the cyclical nature of history and technology.
Sophie, a classically-trained pianist and keyboardist who studied at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, was mentored by the renowned songwriter and GRAMMY-nominated Dr. Patrice Rushen.
Notably, “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles made history as the first music video played on MTV in August 1981. The song, although not new at the time, captivated audiences and became an instant hit upon its release in 1979.
Trevor Horn and his Buggles partner, Geoff Downes, formed the band after playing together in English singer Tina Charles’ group. Their collaboration led to chart-topping success in the late ’70s. Horn’s production skills were further recognized when he worked with Yes on their Grammy-winning album “90125” in 1983.
Despite the surprise appearance at O2 Forum Kentish Town, Trevor Horn is gearing up for a short tour with three upcoming concerts in Newcastle, Manchester, and London. Meanwhile, Sophie continues her tour, having recently opened for artists like Shaggy and Marianas Trench.
