A councillor from Reform UK has been suspended following allegations that he suggested the party was concealing their strict stance on immigration. Lancashire County Council’s County Councillor Tom Pickup was suspended after messages attributed to him were shared by the Reform Party UK Exposed account, where he seemed to support mass deportations.
In the messages on WhatsApp, Councillor Pickup, identified as “Tom,” seemed to agree with another chat member who mentioned that a majority of Brits favored mass deportations and stricter migration policies. He indicated that the party had been strategic in its approach to gaining support, hinting at a forthcoming detailed immigration policy.
A spokesperson for the Labour Party in the county criticized Councillor Pickup’s comments, calling them “despicable” and raising concerns about Reform UK’s choice of representatives. The spokesperson demanded an explanation from Reform UK and an apology to the people of Lancashire for allowing such views to be represented within the party.
Reform UK has faced internal turmoil, winning a majority on Kent County Council but subsequently suspending nine councillors. These events unfolded shortly after Nigel Farage faced accusations of making racist and antisemitic remarks during his time at Dulwich College, allegations that he has denied.
In response to his suspension, Councillor Pickup expressed readiness for an investigation to uncover the truth. Reform UK has been contacted for a statement.
