A tragic incident unfolded as a young farm worker, Andrew Kane, passed away shortly after being bitten by a fly. Andrew, 31, noticed a red mark on his elbow following the bite and sought medical attention after his mother’s insistence. Despite initially receiving antibiotics and showing no adverse reactions, Andrew collapsed during a night out two weeks later. Rushed to Northumbria Emergency Care Hospital, doctors diagnosed him with a severe case of sepsis resulting from the horsefly bite.
Andrew, a father to a seven-year-old daughter, spent weeks in a coma before succumbing on September 18, with his mother Rachel by his side. Originating from Northumberland, Andrew, who came from a farming background, worked as a contract farmer, following his family’s tradition. Rachel shared that Andrew, who also trained as a painter and decorator, had a close bond with her and was a caring individual who even thought of others while battling his illness.
Despite the medical efforts, Andrew’s condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to organ failure. Rachel recounted Andrew’s strength and their deep connection, emphasizing the shock of his sudden decline and passing. She expressed their close relationship, highlighting their shared experiences and the void left by Andrew’s absence. Andrew’s funeral is scheduled in Morpeth, where he will be laid to rest, leaving behind cherished memories and loved ones.
