The loved ones of a UK man who passed away after receiving dental treatment and a hair transplant in Turkey have honored him as the cherished light in their lives.
Mentor Rama, aged 36, traveled to Istanbul for the procedures but fell ill upon returning to his hotel room. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he tragically passed away on November 11.
Subsequently, his body was transferred to the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul, and the authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
A representative from the FCDO stated to The Mirror, “We are providing assistance to the family of the deceased British man in Turkey and are liaising with the local officials.”
In a heartfelt message shared on a family member’s public Facebook page, it was expressed, “Your absence has left an irreplaceable void. Your smile, our source of warmth, and your strength, our pillar of support, will be deeply missed. May your soul find eternal peace in the presence of God.”
Reports from Turkish media indicate that Rama’s remains have been returned to his family in the UK. Turkey has gained popularity among Britons seeking cost-effective cosmetic procedures, despite instances of individuals not returning home.
According to the Foreign Office, at least 28 British citizens have died in Turkey following elective treatments between March 2019 and March 2024. Turkish clinics are recognized for offering “medical tourism packages.”
Many individuals opt to travel to Turkey for dental procedures due to the reduced costs, with “Turkey teeth” procedures typically priced 40 to 60 percent lower than in the UK. However, concerns raised by dentists caution against British citizens undergoing dental work in Turkey due to potential complications.
