“Storm Benjamin Brings 70mph Winds & Heavy Rainfall to UK”

Large parts of the country are expected to face strong 70mph winds and receive up to four inches (90mm) of rainfall today, according to the latest update from the Met Office. The UK is bracing for potential flooding and travel disruptions as the aftermath of Storm Benjamin, named by Meteo France, sweeps through. Weather warnings have been issued primarily for the Southeast and East of England.

Residents in the warned areas are advised to prepare an emergency kit as a precaution against potential flooding. Some isolated regions in the East, like parts of Norfolk and Lincolnshire, could experience heavy rainfall up to 90mm by this evening. The Met Office’s forecast highlights the uncertainty in tracking Storm Benjamin and the varying levels of rainfall expected.

In addition to the heavy rain, temperatures are set to drop in the coming days due to the influence of the storm from France. The shift in weather contrasts with the warm 17.4C recorded in Frittenden, Kent, just a day earlier. The Met Office’s chief meteorologist, Rebekah Hicks, warned of strong winds reaching up to 70mph in coastal areas, with potential disruptions to travel.

Parts of the western coastline, extending from Cornwall to north Wales, are under a separate weather warning for gusty winds. The warning for rain covers a wide area including England and Wales, with potential road spray, flooding, and challenging driving conditions. Coastal routes and communities are likely to be affected by the gusts, leading to travel delays and disruptions.
