Numerous users, particularly those with Samsung devices, have encountered significant screen flickering issues while using Gmail, causing frustration among the affected individuals. Some users have reported instances where text vanishes entirely, while others only see empty white boxes instead of their email content.
Expressing their discontent, Gmail users have turned to social media to voice their concerns. One user named Jeremiah posted on X, directly addressing Gmail: “@gmail, when will Android be functional again on foldable phones like my Samsung Fold? The persistent flickering on the internal screen for the past four days is completely unacceptable.”
Similar grievances have been shared on Google’s support forums, with a user describing the frustrating experience of email content becoming unreadable due to continuous screen flickering despite attempts to resolve the issue through various troubleshooting methods.
A Google product expert, Kimiya Kitani, has linked the problem to Android System WebView, a critical component that enables apps to display web content within the application interface. Kitani mentioned that certain devices, including Samsung tablets, are facing intermittent challenges with Android System WebView, and the matter has been escalated to Google for resolution.
While the exact number of affected users remains unspecified, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among those most impacted by the issue.
In the interim, a temporary solution has been proposed to mitigate the problem. Kitani suggests rotating the device as a potential workaround to halt the screen flickering.
The recommended quick fix involves opening the email in portrait mode, switching to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, and then reverting to portrait mode for normal display.
For now, this workaround offers a simple resolution while users await a permanent fix from Google to address the underlying issue.
