“British Tourist Dies in Canary Islands Railing Collapse”

A British tourist, aged 56, tragically passed away in the Canary Islands after falling nearly 20 feet due to a hotel railing collapse. Another holidaymaker, aged 54, also fell and sustained serious injuries in the same incident at Costa Teguise in Lanzarote early this morning.

The 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other individual was critically injured and taken to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital for treatment. The emergency services responded to reports of the incident around 1:30 am, indicating that the two individuals fell from a significant height within the hotel premises. The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), local police, and the Spanish Civil Guard were dispatched to the location.

Local sources report that the railing that gave way was situated in an elevated section of the hotel complex. An investigation has been initiated by the Civil Guard to ascertain if there was any negligence in maintaining the railing or ensuring the hotel’s safety measures.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Office stated, “We are offering assistance to the families of the British man who passed away and the British man who was injured in Spain.”

In a separate incident in August, a 22-year-old British tourist suffered severe injuries after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Ibiza. The incident occurred at the Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio.
