“Wes Streeting’s PM Joke Resurfaces Amid Leadership Speculation”

Wes Streeting recently acknowledged his long-standing concern that his “sense of humor” might eventually cause him trouble after a video resurfaced in which he jokingly predicted becoming the Prime Minister during a radio show back in 2018. This light-hearted moment gained attention this week amidst growing speculation about a potential leadership challenge against Keir Starmer.

During a lively morning session on LBC, presenter Nick Ferrari played the clip for Streeting, who took it in good humor and playfully accused Ferrari of catching him off guard. Streeting quipped, “It’s often said that my sense of humor will be my downfall one day, but if you don’t believe in yourself, who will? That’s the advice I give to the young people in my constituency.”

In the clip, Streeting, along with other MPs, participated in a segment where they were asked who they thought would be the Prime Minister in ten years. While most predicted Jeremy Corbyn or Kemi Badenoch, Streeting humorously suggested himself.

The political landscape was further stirred up earlier this week when Streeting had to deny allegations of planning a coup against Starmer. Amidst the turmoil, Streeting expressed frustration over the distraction caused by the leadership row, emphasizing the need to focus on more pressing issues.

Streeting also clarified his good relationship with Starmer and dismissed claims of orchestrating a leadership challenge within the Labour Party. He likened the internal strife to a dramatic TV show, highlighting the need for unity and support for the Prime Minister.

Starmer, on his part, reassured that no one from Downing Street had briefed against Streeting, condemning such actions as unacceptable and vowing to address any similar instances firmly.
